EHS Band Equipment Upgrades for Young Gifted Students
Grant Year: 2019 | Focus Area: Arts & Culture | Grant Amount: $106,000 | Grant Status: Completed
The proposed project is to advance the band curriculum at Escambia High School with upgraded instruments and equipment. EHS Band Boosters and the band directors know there are many students who do not have access to a variety of musical instruments, equipment, and concert attire due to their economic status. IMPACT 100 funds will be used to purchase a variety of band instruments, associated equipment, an enclosed cargo trailer for instrument transport, and dresses and tuxedoes for performances. These resources will support instrumental ensemble music education opportunities at Escambia High School, including Jazz Band, Marching Band and Concert Band. Additionally, non-ensemble music education classes including Guitar, Piano, Music Technology, and Sound Engineering will be supported. These are specifically designed and targeted for general population students who may not have the logistical/transportation support at home to participate in ensemble classes. This will help make it possible for low income students to reap the benefits of a quality music education while easing the financial burden on their families.
Pace is responsive to all the needs of the girls, understanding that to truly make the positive change necessary to heal and grow that the girls must have access to services outside of the Pace Center. Pace wants to have the ability to safely and reliably transport the up to 60 girls that participate in the Pace Day program to the health department, job interviews, museums, community service activities, educational field trips, parks for recreation, Tallahassee for Pace Day at the Capitol, presentations in the community, dental appointments, GED exams, home visits and court appearances. IMPACT 100 funds will be used to purchase three new Toyota Sienna Hybrid vans for the Pace Day Program to replace the three vans that need to be retired due to safety and maintenance concerns. Two are 2009 and the third one has over 101,000 miles. They are not currently considered to be reliable. The new five door vans can safety transport up to 8 passengers and are equipped with the latest safety features. They are expected to be in service 10-12 years. Also included will be magnets for each of the three vehicles with Pace Center for Girls, Inc., and IMPACT 100 Pensacola Bay Area prominently identified.
EHS Band Boosters expect to impact the Escambia High School students by facilitating the continuation of their musical education by giving them self-confidence, self-esteem, self-respect, and personal discipline and to raising the overall pride in Escambia High School. It has been proven time and again by research that students in all income brackets and demographics who study music outperform those who do not have music in their curriculum; both academically and in all areas of standardized testing. A beginner or advanced student, having a variety of instruments and equipment available will develop an appreciation for the art of music. Students will be able to participate in a variety of festivals, events, and competitions in the Pensacola and surrounding area. EHS Band Boosters expect to impact the Pensacola Bay Area by providing students the opportunity to continue their music education with Pensacola State College and University of West Florida.
