Infrastructure Development of Tribal Grounds

The Santa Rosa County Creek Indian Tribe, Inc. was founded by descendants of the Creek Indians who escaped removal by the Federal Government to Oklahoma via the infamous "Trail of Tears." There are currently 1,043 Tribe members. The Tribe is focused on reviving, preserving and teaching the language, heritage, and culture of the Creek People.

Project Description

This project will fund infrastructure improvements to support future development on a 95 acre Tribal Ground in Santa Rosa County. This work will allow the Tribal Grounds to be used for the annual Pow Wow, camping, nature studies, and ceremonial activities. Improvements include site drainage, on-site roadway, water well system, septic system, restrooms, and underground electrical.

Community Impact

The project will provide the foundation for future development and better use of the tribal land so that the Tribe can expand program that will increase awareness of the history, heritage and culture of Native Americans and particularly the Creek people.
